Alford, FL
Italia
Alford sits in the rolling hills of northwest Florida's Jackson County, where the landscape differs markedly from the state's typical flatlands. This small community of 354 residents occupies a quiet corner of the Florida Panhandle, roughly 60 miles northwest of Tallahassee and about 25 miles east of Dothan, Alabama. The most direct route to Alford follows State Road 2 from either direction. From Tallahassee, take US-90 west to Sneads, then follow SR-2 north through the countryside. Visitors from Alabama typically use US-231 south from Dothan, connecting to SR-2 west near Campbellton. The area sees moderate traffic from Marianna, about 15 miles southeast via SR-2, making this the primary local commuter route. Long-distance travelers often arrive via Interstate 10, exiting at Marianna and following the state road network north. The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters typical of north Florida. The terrain here features gentle hills and mixed pine and hardwood forests, creating a more varied topography than much of the state. Small farms and rural homesteads dot the landscape between patches of woodland. Alford maintains one of the few remaining active railroad crossings in rural Jackson County, where freight trains still rumble through the heart of the small community several times each week.
